Encana Corp (ENC or ENC.TO) - out of the flag for good

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

Encana Corp is a natural glas player with strong fundamentals. imageTechnically speaking the stock broke out of a 4-month flag last month on good volume and is positioned to continue further up.

My system gave me a signal at the end of october.

VIVO Participacoes (VIV) - Vivo means alive in Portuguese, and it looks like it really is so far. Good traction over the last two days. Bounced nicely from the 50am and the intraday chart shows participation on volume as well.

Resource-Rich Brazil Still A Hot Destination

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007

Very interesting article from Investor’s Business Daily on the Brazilian economy and stocks. Read more here. Some of key topics:

  • "Strong domestic demand is a main engine of growth, supported by falling interest rates, improving labor conditions and price stability," economist Alfredo Coutino said in an outlook on Brazil. "We do not foresee any major inflation problems in the short or medium term, since monetary and fiscal disciplines are expected to be maintained."
  • In the past 12 months, the iShares MSCI Brazil Index (NYSE:EWZ - News) vaulted 87% vs. 16% for the iShares MSCI Mexico Index (NYSEArca:EWW - News).

  • IShares MSCI Brazil is heavily weighted in materials at 34% of assets and energy at 22%. The state oil company, Petrobras (NYSE:PBR - News), accounts for 22%, and metals and mining giant Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (NYSE:RIO - News) is 13%. The third-largest sector, financials, takes up 16% of the portfolio.
  • CVRD stands to benefit if the global iron ore industry consolidates from three to two main players, given its high leverage in iron ore, which is estimated to make up 52% of 2008 revenue, analysts said in a client note.

Here’s a list of Brazilian stocks trading on the NYSE.
