Sharing my February 2008 Results - Risk Control still in Check!

Friday, February 29th, 2008

This year I started to post my trading results, hopefully I will find enough time to post every month - my work has been very demanding. As I said last month, I promise to share the bad months too just so you can have some fun… Without further ado, here are my January and February results:image

Gain/Loss % Capital - My gain this month was 2.3% which is positive but small then last month’s 5.1%, I’m happy. That’s at least 24%/year.

Win/Loss Ratio - My win/loss ratio was 60% which is great but as I said last month it doesn’t mean much if your losses are bigger than your gains.

Risk x Reward - Based on the Risk x Reward ratio (RR) my wins were 1.5 bigger than my losses - check!

Capital at Risk % - Nice, my average risk % per trade was 1.3% compared to 1.5% last month. check!

Overall an excellent month. I’m especially happy about my risk control, it’s like the old say, control your losses and your gains will show.

So far so good for 2008. I could have had much bigger wins but some of my good profits were eaten by the US CAD exchange… Brutal drop on the US dollar this month. The following is the chart for the last 5 days.

Hope your February was positive as well. Good luck to you next week.

Sold Darling International (DAR), PL 46% in 90 days, all posted here.

Friday, February 29th, 2008

This post is not about bragging, it’s about showing that is still possible to make money in fundamentally strong stocks if you are patient, no need to be glued to a screen and putting 100 trades per day. This was a great trade for me, I kept my risk management in check which also limited my profit and that’s OK. I could’ve put all my capital into and made a lot of money but that is not what my method is about. My method is about making money, consistently, bit by bit over many years.

I first posted about Darling International in October 31, 2007 right here, I then followed with the following posts:

Nov 13, 2007 - Bought it at $ 9.77

Dec 7, 2007 - Another post about it

and many others…

In summary, you could’ve entered this stock in multiple points and still make money. I’ve received some nice thanks! emails and I’m happy to see that some of you made money. Some of you also sent me a nice book from my Amazon list (on the sidebar) — very much appreciated. Without further ado, here’s our star stock.

Cameco (CCJ)’s train has left, possible new trend up is in place…

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

I posted about Cameco here before, the symbol is CCJ in the USA and CCO.TO in Canada. I believe this stock is starting a new trend and could see significant appreciation over the next months (disclosure: I have a position on it, this is NOT a recommendation).

Look at the Daily Chart today.
